More than an Immigration Reform, a Humanitarian Action

It has been more than 3 decades since the last immigration reform happened in 1986. Over 3.2 million illegal immigrants had the opportunity to legalize their immigration status and stay legally in the United States. It seems that we as a country did not learn that much from it because there were not any improvements made to the immigration system. There are currently about 11 million people living illegally in the nation; therefore there are a lot of emotions involved when we talk about a possible immigration reform. It seems to be almost impossible to see all the pros and cons of an immigration reform. It is true that most of these group of people enter illegally to the country and/or have overstayed their visas, but this does not qualify these people to be considered bad people or criminals.

With the multitude of immigrants coming in, there could be an increase in the economic status of the United States. This will increase job opportunities creating a decent amount of revenue of about 184 billion dollars. Passing an efficient immigration law requires to satisfy not just the immigrants, it also has to satisfy the American people.

The most controversial topic about immigration reform is; if when this happens the aliens who entered illegally to the country and/or have overstayed their visas could have a pathway to become a citizen of the United States.

To talk about becoming citizens would be a whole different process; one must consider the fairness behind it all. For example, those individuals who work hard to obtain their visas and complete all necessary paperwork and transcripts may find it unfair that someone who came illegally to this country is given a chance at something they worked so hard to achieve. On the other hand to have someone that broke the laws of immigration to come into the nation, to come and have it the easy way would be of great unfairness.

Many immigrants lived in poverty down in their country, which in terms made them come to this country illegally. To work and support their families who are living back in their home country or have traveled alongside them. That poverty disqualifies them from having any chance of paying any fees and automatically disqualify them as a highly
skilled worker, that pertains to the necessary steps to legally arrive in the United States; therefore forcing them to arrive illegally and having to find a job for a better living. Taking their poverty into the necessary consideration, we as citizens are to think with an open mind and allow these individuals a pathway to legalize the immigration status. As they do what they are supposed to do, they a
re free of criminal charges or any activities that endanger the people of the United States; we can provide steps or a way for them to achieve a citizenship which will allow these individuals to prosper and maintain a living.

Acknowledging such statuses and allowing these illegal individuals to legalize their status will help the American citizen living among them, in some cases, adds a sense of security to all residents. Terrorism a
nd crime are a high fear in this country when it comes to illegals. For example, in Los Angeles the high rate crime consist mostly of those illegal individuals; therefore creating an unsafe living environment and a sense of fear as one coexist with these individuals. Not to say all illegals are responsible for all crime in the United States, but in some cities and states where the rate is high on crime, it causes a wave of distress and fear. Documentation is also another factor that plays into the whole legalization of these individuals. Providing a driver license or even a state ID can be considered a plus to help the authorities to identify.

An effective immigration reform will help to reduce crime and insecurities in the nation, by taking care of all the unknown people living among us, but it will also bring lots of opportunities; creating new jobs for the all already American citizens, all the money that a possible reform will generate from taxes revenues.
